The inspection of Isle of Wight local education authority (LEA) was carried out by Ofsted in conjunction with the Audit Commission under section 38 of the Education Act 1997 in September 2003. The inspection used the Framework for the Inspection of Local Education Authorities (December 2001). It focused on the effectiveness of the LEA’s work to support school improvement. The inspection also took account of the Local Government Act 1999, insofar as it relates to work undertaken by the LEA on Best Value.
