Presentation Tips
Fonts Choose sans serif style fonts they are easier to read on a large screen. Verdana Arial Comic sans Sassoon Primary
Experiment with the font size. Choose at least point 24. Stand at the back of the class. If you can’t read it, it is too small.
Colour Depending on the set up there maybe some glare caused from the projector. This is more pronounced with white backgrounds. So using a darker coloured background reduces this glare.
Is black text on a white background always the easiest to read? ICT enables you to change the look of your presentation very easily. Try a light coloured text on a dark background.
Are any of your pupils colour-blind? They may find it hard to distinguish between certain colours - red and green are fairly common. For example, if you are analysing some text and you have chosen a dark background with red text, do not highlight important parts of the text with green or choose a dark green background.
Images and clip art Does the image you have used detract from the text, does it aid understanding? The use of images may assist some readers to access the text more easily.
Blocks of text How are the lines of text arranged, or spaced out on the page? Are they equally spaced out from the top to the bottom, or are the lines grouped together? The latter is easier to read on a large screen. If you have two paragraphs then they could be grouped separately.
Paragraph layout Text in newspapers and magazines tend to be fully justified, i.e. the text is aligned in neat columns on both the left and right-hand sides. This can be hard to read on a big screen so align the text on one side only.
