For young Isle of Wight musicians

Objects


The advancement of music education on the Isle of Wight for the benefit of pupils and young musicians by :-
  • Providing tuition in musical instruments
  • The provision of musical instruments and equipment
  • The payment of bursaries and awards for music tuition and education
  • Providing assistance to enable pupils to receive music tuition
  • Subsidising musical events
  • Any other activities in connection with musical education and appreciation

Activities supported by the Trust include :


One-off projects to encourage large numbers of young musicians to go on to acquire a skill for life.
Bursaries
The trust offers a limited number of annual discretionary bursaries for music tuition to young people of school age in financially disadvantaged circumstances and who show evidence of musical ability and commitment.
Written evidence of financial circumstances is required in support of applications, each of which is considered by the trustees on its own merits.
Auditions are held twice yearly.

Sheet music resource library
Teachers of financially disadvantaged pupils are invited to apply to the Trust on their behalf to borrow printed music resources for use in instrumental / vocal studies.

Minority Instruments
The Trust especially supports and encourages the study of the following instruments which are often, due to reasons of size and expense, in short supply. : Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Euphonium, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. The trustees may, at their discretion, be able to provide assistance to pupils from financially disadvantaged backgrounds towards the purchase or rental of such instruments on receipt of written evidence of financial circumstances.

Donations : In order to ensure the future sustainability of its funds and to enable the Trust to continue helping provide young Island musicians with new opportunities the trustees are always pleased to receive donations (in an envelope clearly marked “Brenda James Trust”) at the address below.
